Artifact Donation

Do you have a piece of Oak Ridge history from the Manhattan Project era (1942-1945) or that reflect life in the Oak Ridge area prior to, during, and after that period that you think should be preserved? The Oak Ridge History Museum will consider acceptance of items that relate to Oak Ridge history if they meet one or more of the criteria listed below. This includes artifacts, photographs, and documents that are historically significant and unique to Oak Ridge.

All donations must be accompanied by a completed Deed of Gift form when bringing your donation.

  • Object(s) must be relevant to and consistent with the purposes of the Museum.

  • Acquisitions will be acquired through donations.
  • The Museum shall provide storage, protection, and preservation of the objects.

  • Item(s) will remain in the collection so long as they remain useful for the purpose and goals of the Museum.

  • All moral, legal, and ethical implications of the acquisition must have been considered.

  • All donations of materials are considered outright and unconditional gifts to be used at the discretion of the Museum.

  • Title to all objects acquired, including copyright where applicable, shall be free and clear, without restriction to use or future disposition.

  • The Museum does not appraise or authenticate objects offered as gifts.

  • The Museum does not accept items on loan unless they are requested by the Museum to provide or complete a temporary exhibit.

  • No material or objects shall be knowingly accepted or acquired which are known to have been illegally collected in the United States contrary to state and/or federal law, regulations, treaty, or conventions.

  • Provenance of the item(s) is requested, if possible. Photographs being donated must be identified.
